Accomodations and Meals
Our accommodations are generally very good. In Tiberias, we will be staying at the German Catholic Pilgerhaus, a modern pilgrim’s hotel (5-star) in on the waterfront adjacent to the famous pilgrimage site of Tabgha, in Nazareth we stay at a recently renovated Convent guesthouse, and in Tel Aviv, at a modern boutique hotel. All accommodations include private bath and double or single occupancy, as arranged when booking.
In Jerusalem, the available options are somewhat limited. We have chosen the best available option within the ancient city walls, the Knights’ Palace Hotel. It is a comfortable locally-run hotel, but space is at a premium within the old city and you will certainly notice this. Previous pilgrims have said that the variety of accommodations was always acceptable, and that some brought out the “pilgrimage” aspects of our trip more than others. In the past, we have opted for ‘better’ accommodations outside the ancient walls, however it has been our experience that the wonderful location more than makes up for the slightly less charming hotel rooms. The back garden of the Knight’s Palace is fenced on one side by the ancient city wall, and it really brings Psalm 122 to life: “now our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem.’
The majority of your meals are included. Breakfast is always provided by our hotel.
There are some meals on your own, particularly on days when we will have free time.
There will always be suggestions and opportunities to eat with small groups, but it is also a chance for you to make local connections, to be a bit adventurous, or to find more familiar options. You will probably find that, after many days of group meals, you
will welcome the opportunity to eat lightly – the local cultures value hospitality and will show their welcome to us with very generous portions and meals.
