Children's Choir

The Children's Choir is currently on hiatus.  If you are interested in future leadership or participation in the choir, contact Summer Kinard.

The Children's Choir is open to all children of elementary school age (K-6), plus a few younger or older children for whom children's choir is developmentally appropriate.  If your child is interested in trying out a rehearsal, just contact Summer Kinard, the children's choir director, and we can arrange a rehearsal that is newcomer-friendly. We meet during the Christian Education school year (September-May) on Wednesday evenings, 5:30-6:15 in the choir room.

Once or twice a month the children bring lively, age-appropriate music, plus a few classics and hymns, to one of the liturgies. We encourage the children to see themselves as ministers leading the parish in worship.  We incorporate a variety of forms of instruments for accompaniment, including rhythm instruments, Orffs, African drums, and piano. More often than not, a child or many children sing solos or provide instrumental accompaniment for our music.  We are deeply blessed to have Debbie McCarthy as the choir's piano accompanist.  Other parish musicians also share their instrumental gifts from time to time.

Children's Choir Repertoire for the 2009-2010 school year included: "The King of Love My Shepherd Is" (with vocal soloists), "Siyahamba" (with djembe and rhythm instruments), "On This Day Earth Shall Ring" (accompanied by Orff instruments, including a child instrumental soloist), "Somebody's Knockin' At Your Door" (with rhythm soloist), "Ezekiel Connected Them Dry Bones" (with rhythm instruments and spoken solos), and "Halle, Halle, Halle" (with vocal solos, duets, and rhythm instruments).
