EYC Summer Recreation
Summer EYC events are intended to be a little out of the ordinary, fun, and intriguing ways of learning to live into our baptismal vows. Take a look and see what catches your attention. All of these offerings are "come as you can" offerings, so don't feel bad if you can't make every meeting for a particular group. For some events, no sign-up is needed. For other events, sign-up and your summer availability are requested in order to help us plan accordingly. Additionally, the Youth Commission would like to highlight Passageways for all rising 6th and 7th graders. Take a look and we hope to see you this summer!
C.S. Lewis Book Group - Deceptively simple and childlike, the Chronicles of Narnia awaken our imagination and help us to see the world and our lives as Christians. Meeting three times (dates TBD) throughout the summer, this group will read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the "Dawn Treader." Never read these books before? Come and enter the world of Narnia for the first time. Read these books before? Come and re-read these books with your older and wiser eyes... you'll be amazed at what you missed the first time around. Join us for one or all three of these stories. Interested? Contact Katie Kelly ASAP in order to sign-up and help determine the meeting schedule.
Movie Night - Casablanca (1942) is routinely named on lists of greatest films. We'll watch it, discuss just what all the fuss is about, and formulate possible Christian responses to the complex sensibilities the film offers. If you haven't seen it, be sure to join us; if you have seen it--would you miss an opportunity to see it again? No need to sign-up. We'll meet at 6:30 pm on July 7th in the Christian Education Commons. Contact Scott Dill for more information.
Evenings with Stanley - Some of you know Stanley Hauerwas as Time magazine's 2001 "America's Best Theologian." Some of you know Stanley as a regular at Holy Family's 8:55 liturgy. Some of you have no idea who Stanley Hauerwas is. But this summer, Stanley has offered to talk with you three times and all of you should consider coming.
1) What Happened When I Couldn’t Get Saved (Sunday June 13th, 6:00 pm, Parish Hall)
2) Why Did Jesus Have To Die? (Sunday July 25th, 6:00 pm, Parish Hall)
3) Why do we believe in the Church? (Sunday August 15th, 6:00 pm, Parish Hall)
Stanley will spend the first part of these evenings talking, and we'll spend the remainder of the evening digesting and unpacking what we've heard. Contact Paul Cizek for more information.
Trips and Retreats
Occasionally, EYC throws off our normal schedule and romps about town, North Carolina, and beyond. While we're away we rest, play, enjoy God's creation, and fellowship with each other.
Upcoming Retreats:
Passageways - Rising 6th and 7th graders are invited to this one night and one day introduction to Holy Family's EYC. Get to know your fellow sixth and seventh graders, and meet a few of your leaders. Plus, you'll get a taste a what EYC's all about: worship, lessons, discussions, serving together, playing together, and eating together. It's like a whole year of EYC crammed into 24 hrs. When: August 27th at 7pm to August 28th at 7pm. Cost for participants: $25. Contact Paul Cizek for more information.
