A Holy Land Pilgrimage 2012

Monday, September 24 – Saturday, October 6, 2012

Have you ever wanted to see the lands of the bible? To walk where Jesus walked? To experience the life and culture of the Middle East?

Then please consider joining us for a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in September – October 2012. Come and see the place where it all began! We will travel through Israel, following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ and learning about the first Christians. Our pilgrimage will begin in the Holy City of Jerusalem. There, we will stand where Jesus stood 2000 years ago, we will visit the sites of his life, his death, and his resurrection. As we journey, we will come to new understandings of our faith, our scriptures, and our traditions.

Participants

Our pilgrimage is designed for both newcomers and returning pilgrims, and is an ideal opportunity for newcomers and returning pilgrims alike. If you have already visited the Holy Land, then this pilgrimage is an opportunity to revisit the holy sites, to acquaint yourself with new places, and to continue your pilgrim journey through this ancient land.

This is an opportunity to travel with Episcopalians from Chapel Hill. The leadership team will represent both Holy Family and the Chapel of the Cross, and we will be inviting all the local congregations to participate if they wish. Spaces are limited, and will be assigned in the order in which registrations are received. The pilgrimage is open to all ages, but is most suitable for children ages 12 and up. If you would like to travel with younger family members, please talk to one of the leaders to learn more.

Leadership

The trip will be led by Sally French, Joseph Walker, and David Frazelle. Sally has been working with Christian pilgrimages in the Holy Land for over a decade, including serving on the faculty of St George’s College, Jerusalem. She is completing a doctorate on the topic of Christian pilgrimage to the Holy Land and is married to Clarke French, the rector of Holy Family, Chapel Hill. Joe has been working with Sally to lead pilgrimages since 2005, and has a particular gift for making local connections and facilitating worship on pilgrimage. He is the rector of St Timothy’s Anglican Church in Edmonton, Canada. David is the Associate for Parish Ministry at the Chapel of the Cross, Chapel Hill. He has led youth pilgrimages to Washington, DC since 2005. He is eagerly anticipating both leading and participating in his first pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
